Whenever buying a fragrance, we usually have the option of
purchasing cologne, eau de toilette, or perfume. The majority of us will choose
a bottle based on things that have nothing to do with the scent itself, price,
perhaps, or bottle shape, but there is a substantial difference between these
products. Below, you will get a little taste of what makes each unique.
Cologne always brings to mind men's fragrances. Cologne is
always associated with a scent that is lighter, not as overwhelming as perfume,
and for good reason. Since cologne is only crafted out of one particular scent,
unlike perfume, it will never be as overwhelmingly complex. It also contains
less concentrated essence, only about seven percent, diluted in alcohol and
water, making it the best choice for when the weather is too hot to wear
something heavy. It is cheaper than perfume, though it has to be reapplied more
times since it wears off quite quickly. These days, most scentcrafters
perfumes are offered in cologne version, even those for women, so it can be an
affordable alternative when choosing some of the more expensive brands of
fragrances.
If you'd like something a little bit stronger, then you
might be interested in the eau de toilette. It is a lighter version of perfume,
but stronger than cologne, making it a good in-between choice for most
fragrances in the market. Despite being light, eau de toilette is still more
complex than cologne, since it contains two different scents. The second scent
takes over only when the first one, the top note, evaporates, making it last a
bit longer than cologne. This is another affordable option when choosing an
expensive brand of perfume.
The most concentrated, most expensive option is, of course,
the perfume. Perfume has three different layers of scents, or notes, separated
into the top note, the heart note, and the base note. Since these notes are
released over a large amount of time, the perfume will remain on the skin for
hours. The reason for this is the amount of concentrated fragrance, which can
be up to forty percent. Unlike cologne and eau de toilette, which are usually
sprayed onto the body, perfume is applied carefully to certain pulse points,
like the wrists, behind the ears, and at the throat, to maximize the scent. The
downside, of course, is that perfume comes in smaller bottles and is more
expensive...read more

You have to ask just what you are looking for when making a
choice between these three products. If you want something subtler, then
cologne or eau de toilette is a good option, but if you want a really strong
fragrance that will linger for hours, perfume is the way to go. To give you
